Daniel Childs

Computer Science Student

I am a student currently studying at Birmingham City University for my Bsc Computer Science Degree. I enjoy working on Software Development and Website Design/Development Projects. I have been improving my skills in Programming and Website Design/Development with creating the Motor-Trader Website, the Flight-Booking-System App, and the Yamoussoukro website.

I am a very enthusiastic and hard working person with experience as a part time worker as a Volunteer in a local charity shop and a Carriage Cleaner at the Severn Valley Railway. I have a range of experience in different programming languages such as Python, Java, F# and enough knowledge of basic programming to quickly new programming languages and coding methods.

Motor Trader

Motor Trader is the resulting product of a second year module. It is a Website that has been built from scratch using the Bootstrap framework, along with PHP and the MySQL Database, phpMyAdmin. It is a Website for a local Second-Hand Car Dealership where Customers can look at Cars currently in stock before contacting the Dealership to book an appointment for viewing the Car of their choice.

Its main functions are for the employees of the Dealership where they can login into the admin section of the Website to Add, Update, or Remove Cars from the Database. Also in the Vehicles section of the site if a Customer were to click on a specific Car, the details of that Car would be displayed for the Customer to see. Finally, the Website also includes links to important Websites for Car buyers such as an Insurance Website (Compare-the-Market) and the Government road tax site.

Yamoussoukro

The Yamoussoukro Website was created for my first year Website Design module where we had to create a Website for the country's capital that was assigned to us. I got Yamoussoukro in the Ivory Coast on the West African Coast. It was built using HTML and CSS.

Its main goal was to provide information for Tourists, History Enthusiasts and anyone interested in the Religions of the Country. The Map that is in the image above was inserted using a hyperlink and an iframe tag. The rest of the site contains information that I researched and referenced concerning the Capital. there is also links to the capitals Facebook and YouTube accounts to add extra detail to the site.

Flight-Booking-System App

The Flight-Booking-System App was created for my second year Object Oriented Programming module. This was a team project as a Friend and I coded it using the Java IDE Eclipse. It is an app for the Admin staff at airports or travel agencies where they can add, remove or update Flights, Customer Bookings, and/or Customers themselves.

Once a flight's departure time has occurred the system will hide it from the list in the system but not in the save files as a a way of keeping a form of flight records. Once a Customer or Booking has been removed from the system they will no longer show up in any of the save files.
